TEGALSARI – Darussalam Islamic Boarding School is an educational institution for Islamic boarding schools located in the South Banyuwangi area of East Java, specifically + 12 Km from the city of Genteng and Jajag as well as + 45 Km., from the city of Banyuwangi Regency.
The condition of the location of the area is fertile land and in the west it is bordered by the Kali Baru River, to the south is rice fields, to the east of the rural areas and to the north of the rice fields. KH. Mikhtar Syafaat Abdul Ghofur is the main character of the founder of this Darussalam Islamic Boarding School, he comes from the village of Ploso Klaten, Kediri, East Java.
Level of education after completing general education, He continued his education at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java and the Jalen Islamic Boarding School, Genteng Banyuwangi District for approx 23 year, he studied at the boarding school. In the year 1949 he married the mother of Nyai Maryam, the daughter of Mr. Karto Diwiryo who came from the village of Margo Katon Sayegan, Sleman Yogyakarta, but by that time it had moved to Blokagung Hamlet, Karangdoro Village, Gambiran District (now changed to Tegalsari District) Banyuwangi Regency, East Java.
During 6 month in the newly occupied area, then his companions came while reciting to him, so it is not suspected that what is obtained at the Islamic Boarding School is very useful . The surrounding community at that time was still religiously blind. This once threatened its development.
Faced with such a situation, he patiently and lovingly kept pouring out to Him, he prayed, “Oh God our God, give guidance to this people, because they don't know yet.". Due to a very urgent situation, Then a strong will arises to encourage the establishment of a permanent place of education, as a place to educate friends and the surrounding community who do not know religion at all.
At the date of 15 January 1951 A building was established in the form of a small, very simple prayer room, while the material is made of bamboo and thatched roof, with the size 7 x 5-M2 . This prayer room is named "DA"- RUSSALAM” with the hope that it will eventually become a place of public education until the end of time. The pesantren is officially a legal entity and is in the form of a foundation, namely under the name "Darussalm Islamic Boarding School Foundation" with a notary deed from Soesanto Adi Purnomo., SH. Number 31 tahun1978.
With a long journey KH. Muhtar Syafa'at Abdul Ghofur leads the Darussalam Islamic boarding school, he was a wise and prudent man, admired by the community and followed all his fatwas, so that this adds to the fragrance of his noble name among the people. Finally right on Friday night Saturday date 17 Rojab 1411H / 02 February 1991 o'clock 02.00 early days, he returned to Rahmatullah in his old age 72 year. And every date 17 Rojab is carried out by Haul to commemorate services- his services. For the further development of the pesantren, it was continued by his first son, KH.
