BANYUWANGI, KOMPAS.com – Sugimin (46), husband of I (39), Domestic Workers (PRT) origin Banyuwangi admitted that he was shocked when he heard that his beloved wife had become a victim of abuse by her employer in Malaysia.

Sugimin, who works as a casual laborer, didn't expect this, the wife's good intentions to change the fate of the family turned into disaster.

Body shaking and crying

Even, when he first got a call from the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia about his wife's condition, Sugimin's body immediately trembled. She was crying and didn't know what to do.

“Got the phone, my body was shaking. I couldn't hold back my tears when I heard the news from the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia. Oh God how can my wife be like that,” said Sugimin when met Kompas.com in her home, Tuesday (2/5/2023).

When I received the news from the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, he had just returned from working as a farmhand in his neighbor's rice fields.

“At first it was my son who answered the phone. Then I was told that I was in the fields. Then the Indonesian Embassy called again and I picked up,” he said.

Want to improve the economy

Sugimin told a story, his wife left for Malaysia due to economic problems. Actually, residents of Sraten Village, The Cluring sub-district had refused his wife's request to go abroad.

“I said be patient first, sustenance has been arranged. We are slowly building up the family economy. But the wife still wants to leave. Yes, it's okay, the important thing is to be careful,” Sugimin said.

Sugimin admitted that his wife was tempted to go abroad, at the behest of a field officer (PL) from Plampangrejo Village, Cluring District.

“My wife and I used to sell cilok in front of the school. Then there are friends who offer work abroad. Well, my wife is interested. From there finally want to leave,” Sugimin said.
