JARANAN buto has now spread in the antics of Bumi Blambangan. Almost in every sub-district there is now a jaranan buto community. Even, in Galekan Village, Wongsorejo District, there are three jaranan buto associations.

The development of the buto jaranan cannot be separated from its originators, Darni Wiyono, 76, Cemetuk hamlet residents, Cluring Village/District; Setro Asnawi and Usik from Dusun Tanjungrejo, Kebondalem Desa Village, Bangorejo District.

“Before together (make buto horses) Mbah Setro. He comes here often, we make creations and finally become jaranan buto until now,” said Darni when met at his house yesterday (26/8). Jaranan buto, the result of his creation with Setro, was initiated in 1964. But, after year 1965 art has experienced a lot of additions, especially in dance moves.

"If the makeup stays the same, only the dance is added,He said. The creation of jaranan into buto jaranan was inspired by the legendary story of Prabu Minak Jinggo. Almost all of the makeup and movements are from the story of the king in Blambangan Kingdom.

“Buto in this realm represents the character of a knight. King Minak Jinggo was a knight of Blambangan," he said. by movement, buto horses are different from songkler horses or lumping horses. The difference lies in the posture of the players who are more manly and frightening. Make-up prioritizes the dominance of black color, Red, and white.

"There's also a lot of gending, there was a slide when the soldiers came out,he explained. Dominate red, white, and black, on the face of the buto jaranan dancer, it was originally made with Setro. The style used by each dancer is different because it adapts to their respective faces and body postures.

If the show takes place at night, dancers will usually reduce the black color because it is not too visible and loses to the light. "If you play at night, you wear a lot of red",he explained.

The joys and sorrows of leading the buto group are not only related to artistic factors. No less important, how to regulate the relationship between the community and the audience. Night and day performances cannot be separated from the audience.

Many in the audience were interested and it seemed as if they were in a trance like a jaranan dancer. On the one hand, it becomes a pleasure in itself because the jaranan is in demand and gets attention. But, the other side, often detrimental to the show because there are dancers from the audience who are in a trance it interferes with the duration.

“I don't like it when an audience joins in ndadi. It interferes with the dancer's order schedule," he said. Until now, Darni is still sorting out the jaranan group and the audience who want to be involved in the jaranan dance. If that audience has an artistic background, then you will be given time to dance.

"I saw that he was indeed an artist", I'll give you five minutes,he explained. But, if the audience just wants to appear for style, then had to be rejected in a subtle way. “We distinguish between serious viewers and bums. That kind of thing in the end is just looking for chaos," he said.

Long before the jaran show somewhere, he first defines the character of the community, especially the youth towards the art of jaranan. He chose to anticipate by establishing communication with youth leaders and the community. "Caring for the arts must be friendly in order to increase the number of brothers",he explained.

Darni is grateful to see the development of buto horses that have now spread in Banyuwangi. All he knows, currently around 126 Buto jaranan association that still exists. But, in existing list, the number even reached 150 more group.

"Registered" 150 group, but active around 126 group," he said. The data discrepancy relates to dancers who join two different associations. It's common among artists. But, for the sake of the festival makes it difficult.

"In the festival, dancers are not allowed to participate in two groups," he explained. Darni confessed, The buto jaranan festival has been gone for a long time. He hopes that someone can hold it again for the sake of the continuity of the art.

“When there is a festival, all buto horse groups can perform,"hope". It is just, before the festival was held, Invitations must be delivered in advance. So that, the activity can take place maximally. "Also the dancers don't join the two groups," he said. (radar)
