BANYUWANGI, KOMPAS.com – A small boat containing offerings of cow heads, crops and sea, paraded and floated out to sea at Lampon Beach, Pesanggaran Village, Kecamatan Pesanggaran, Regency Banyuwangi, East Java, Wednesday (19/7/2023).
Larung offerings are accompanied by traditional music of the Osing tribe, traditional Balinese music and enlivened by shadow puppet performances, janger and jaranan arts.
Traditional stakeholders started the activity with a solemn prayer with thousands of local people.
Lampon Fisherman Society Leader, Suharsono said, This tradition is held as an expression of gratitude for the blessings of marine products that have been given by God Almighty.
“We do this in mutual cooperation with the fishermen of Lampon Beach,” Suharsono said, Wednesday (19/7/2023).

According to Suharsono, sea quotes It is a traditional tradition that has been carried out since 1927 by the fishing community of Lampon.
“This ritual is held once a year every date 1 Surro or 1 Muharram,” Suharsono said.
Besides offering offerings, The ritual procession of picking the sea is also carried out with a ceremonial procession. The event was attended by thousands of Lampon fishing communities.
Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani Azwar Anas appreciated the traditional ritual of picking the sea.
“Thank You, We are proud to see people who are friendly and harmonious in holding activities that have been passed down for generations since tens of years ago,” said Ipuk.
Ipuk hopes that the tradition of picking the sea can continue to be preserved, because it is part of caring for civilization.
“Hopefully this tradition will continue, and residents continue to get along in harmony,” please Ipuk.
