In a press statement on the official website of the Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights, on Wednesday 16 January 2022 has received complaints from representatives of Pakel Village residents, Licin District, Banyuwangi Regency, related to the violence experienced by residents of Pakel Village on Friday (14/012022) by Banyuwangi Police officers.
Residents complained to the National Human Rights Commission accompanied by the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) East Java and the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Surabaya. In addition to complaining about violence, residents also complained about land conflicts involving Cultivation Rights (HGU) plantations in the region.
Regarding the complaint, Komnas HAM RI immediately responded and responded by coordinating with the Police and sending a team to the field. In addition, Komnas HAM RI also asked for information from the parties, including the Police so that the incident became clear.
Furthermore, Komnas HAM RI asked the police to work more humanely, persuasive and protects the rights of citizens who are fighting for their rights by not resorting to violence or other forms of action that are inconsistent with human rights principles. This news was denied by the Head of the Banyuwangi Police, Kombes Pol Nasrun Pasaribu S.I.K, who said that there was news of persecution against the residents of Pakel Village., Licin District, Banyuwangi, by its members is not true and needs to be clarified. “Kabar penganiayaan itu tidak benar. Our members do not commit acts of violence at all, ” kata Kombes Pol Nasrun Pasaribu S.I.K., told reporters Thursday (14/1/2022).
