Before Eid al-Adha, Banyuwangi Regency Government Anticipates Transmission of Livestock Diseases

ID TEXT – Before the holidays Eid al-Adha, Banyuwangi anticipate the circulation of sacrificial animals suffering from disease. Among them is the emergence of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) or skin disease bumps in a number of areas.

"We continue to monitor the distribution of sacrificial animals in Banyuwangi. Both those in a number of breeders or those that will be imported from outside, all must be free from disease. Especially LSD,said the Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health at the Agriculture and Food Service Banyuwangi Nanang Sugianto, Tuesday (30/5/2023).

The disease caused by the virus has reportedly attacked four cows in Jember Regency. To date, This virus only attacks cattle or buffalo.

"From Banyuwangi alone, no reports yet. But, as anticipation we have prepared 700 vaccine dose for this disease,said Nana.

700 the dose of vaccine provided, Nanang added, will be distributed to livestock in the district Banyuwangi. Especially in the three areas viz, Licin District, Purwoharjo District, and Tegaldlimo District which is the center of livestock Banyuwangi.

“This is the first stage, we distribute to dairy cows. Because dairy cows are most susceptible to disease,he explained.

Livestock infected with LSD are easy to recognize from their physical appearance. One of its characteristics is a hard bump like smallpox on the skin. Usually in the abdominal area, neck and back of the animal.

"When there is a sign- signs leading to clinical symptoms similar to those of LSD, then the farmer is expected to immediately contact the local animal health officer,he asked.

As a precautionary measure, Nanang added, intensive checks were also carried out in a number of animal markets in Banyuwangi.

“We continuously check these livestock, at the same time as the PMK vaccination is still being carried out. Exist 11 the team we went down with 28 medical staff and paramedics in it," he concluded. (*)
