DEDY JUMHARDIYANTO, Muncar

A row of piles of fan waste that mounts on the edge of the Sukosari Hamlet highway, Tembokrejo Village, Muncar District at first glance looks shabby and useless. Behind the pile of former fans sat a serious man staring at a fan dynamo.

The man was fiddling with a dynamo that looked worn and broken. Stopping occasionally to pick up the screwdriver and tools needed to repair the turning machine.

That work is done, Edi Ali Makrus, Every day. Since two years ago, the man became a seller and repairman of used fans. The work that was done was never imagined before, especially since graduating from high school in 26 last year never had any electronics service skills.

The profession as a repairman and seller of used fans began when he saw the large amount of waste used fans being sold for nothing because they were damaged. Even, a fan that was originally purchased at a fairly expensive price, must be sold in vain at a very cheap price.

From that experience, Edi thinks about using the waste from the former fan, namely by repairing it so that it can be reused. “It is rare for an electrical service technician to accept and repair a fan,He said.

Since that, The father of two started trying to find a used fan in junkyards. The fan was bought at a very cheap price, ie starting from Rp 15 thousand to Rp 35 thousand. “I am self-taught, only have experience as an AC repairman (air conditioner)," he said.

In trying to fix that old fan, Edi was confused and had failed. Even, I've been fiddling with it many times but it still won't turn on. Even though it failed several times, he still doesn't want to give up and gets even more excited. Until finally the fan can work again. "I've been trying to fix it for three days in a row and it just works," he said.

When the new fan could be repaired, there was a resident who passed in front of his house. The person immediately bought at a price of Rp 120 thousand. "First to improve the behavior of Rp 120 thousand," he said.

The success of repairing the used fan makes Edi addicted. Next, He hunts used fans by picking them up directly from a number of junk collectors in the South Banyuwangi area, such as in Muncar District, Tegaldlimo . District, Srono . District, Cluring District, and Rogojampi Kecamatan District.

Because his hobby is hunting used fans, a number of scavengers began to recognize him. Until now, a number of scavengers have directly deposited the used fan at their house. "I was looking for, not anymore. The scavengers deliver to the house if they get a used fan," he explained.

Large junk fans are purchased from scavengers with prices starting at Rp 15 thousand to Rp 35 thousand. Medium junk fan is small, purchased from Rp 5.000 up to Rp 15 thousand. It depends on the brand, quality of goods, and damage rate. "If it's badly damaged, the price will be cheaper",the excuse.

In a day Edi was able to fix seven large junk fans. If the fan is small, he was able to fix up to 10 fan. All fans that have been repaired are immediately displayed in his shop and are given a price tag according to the type and brand.

"If the fan is a Chinese brand, it's cheap, around Rp 120 thousand. If the famous brand can be Rp 140 thousand per fan," he said.
