JATIMNOW.COM – Balinese who have settled in Kampung Bali, Patoman Traditional Village, Blimbingsari District, Banyuwangi Regency observes Nyepi for the Saka New Year 1944.

Today they did not leave the house. Security only (pecalang) just outside. They make sure that no one leaves the house or people from other villages enter the village.

In Kampung Patoman, almost the population comes from Bali and the majority are Hindus. Not only are the customs and culture brought to Banyuwangi, but their house culture is designed as a Balinese house.

The atmosphere in the village seemed deserted because all the residents were doing the rituals of meditation in the house for the duration 24 jam. They take advantage of their solitude by fasting and reading Hindu scriptures at home.

There is no activity of residents or vehicles passing on village roads or residential alleys. Even every entrance to the village road is closed using bamboo poles.

Likewise, the residents' houses and temples looked closed with no activity at all. Several pecalang or security officers were seen guarding the village crossroads and going around all the village roads.

“We take care that people do not leave the house, also make sure that people from outside the village do not enter our village, so that people who carry out their worship are not disturbed,” explained Made Hardhana, one of the Hindu Religious Leaders in the Traditional Village of Patoman.

“This is control in everyday life, the sacred moment for Hindus to carry out the pencak brata penyepian is amati geni, watch the auction, observe travel, observe the work, 24 clock start hour 6 morning to hour 6 another morning,” it's clear.

Made added, chess brata is done by staying silent and reading holy books and self-introspection.

“This Nyepi Day, Hindus also pray that the Covid-19 Pandemic which has been going on for almost three years in Indonesia will soon disappear and end,” he added.

Nyepi Day celebrations in the Patoman Traditional Village also took place in high tolerance. Hindus in this village also coexist with people of other religions.
