BANYUWANGI – In accordance with the predictions of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the transition season from the dry season to the rainy season the weather conditions are unstable. Strong winds accompanied by heavy rains are still haunting the Banyuwangi area.

Even predictable, strong winds continue to occur until next November. Head of Emergency and Logistics of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Banyuwangi, Eka Muharam Suryadi said, the potential for strong winds accompanied by rain during the transitional season as it currently occurs in almost all areas of Banyuwangi.

However, his party maps out several sub-districts that are most often hit by strong winds during extreme weather like this. Gambir District, Srono, Cluring, Roof tiles and Tegaldlimo are prone to strong winds, said Eka.

She said, the areas mentioned earlier are vulnerable because the contours of the land there are very flat and there are many residential areas. So, if there is a strong wind blowing automatically the wind will not obstruct it and it will blow freely into the residents' houses.

“Because flat is not a hindrance, it's different if it's in the Banyuwangi District area, here the contour of the land is high and low, so the potential for damage from strong winds is minimal, said Eka.

The impact of the strong winds that occurred was not only in Yosomulyo Village, Gambiran sub-district was the only one that was damaged by the strong winds. In Kembiritan Village, It was also reported that many houses were hit by trees in the Genteng sub-district due to the strong winds and heavy rains that hit.

"In Desa Kembirit there is 8 houses, the total loss reached Rp 6 million, while in Yosomulyo Village there are approx 14 house hit by a tree, the total loss is around Rp 20 million,"he said.

Related to the strong winds and heavy rains that still have the potential to occur, BPBD appealed to residents to immediately trim the trees near the house if they are already fragile. Trees that are already tall and dangerous are better cut off immediately to avoid disaster caused by the strong winds that occur.

"From now on we have to work actively to cut down trees that are already brittle for safety. This is a natural factor, we have to anticipate early. Don't wait for a new victim to cut down tall trees, especially those near people's homes,” he added. (radar)
