BANYUWANGI – The Banyuwangi Regency Government will develop the Balqis variety of red durian seeds. The Balqis variety of red durian seeds are seeds taken from the parent tree and have been registered with the Seed Supervision and Certification Center (BPSB) Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture.
Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas said, year 2016 The Banyuwangi Regency Government is targeting to provide as many Balqis durian seeds as possible 5000 seed. Development of horticultural commodities will continue, including the red durian type.
"We will accelerate the development of red durian. By increasing seeds, production can certainly increase in the future,Said Anas. Two varieties of red durian, namely balqis and Sunrise of Java (SOJ), officially registered as belonging to Banyuwangi by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture.
The approval of the two red durian variants is contained in the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture Number 143/Kpts/ SR.120/D.2.7/9/2015 for the SOJ durian type and the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture Number 142/Kpts/SR.120/ D.2.7/9/ 2015 for the Balqis variant.
Anas added, This year, Banyuwangi will also duplicate the Balqis durian mother tree to safeguard the durian germplasm.. At the moment, Banyuwangi has designated five areas as centers for the development of red durian, namely in Kalipuro District, Smooth, Glagah, Turns, and Songgon.
The five sub-districts were chosen according to the origin of the parent tree. The five sub-districts have topography suitable for the development of red durian commodities. In Banyuwangi there are various variants of red durian which are grouped into three parts based on the color of the flesh.
First, Red blocking durian whose entire flesh is red. Second, Rainbow red durian whose flesh is red and yellow. Third, Graphic durian whose flesh is yellow, white and red. The three varieties can be differentiated from the tree because the leaves have their own characteristics.
Banyuwangi red durian is sought after. Apart from the fact that demand has soared from tourists on holiday in Banyuwangi, Red durian is increasingly famous because it has received extensive promotion through the media, both conventional media and social media. A number of researchers from abroad also specifically come to Banyuwangi to look for plant seeds.
"The Banyuwangi Regency Government has also planted and distributed thousands of red durian seeds for cultivation for the community. Red durian is a typical Banyuwangi fruit with high economic value compared to ordinary durian,Said Anas.
In terms of efficacy, Red durian apparently has many advantages. Unlike the white meat durian whose content is dominated by sugar and carbohydrates, Red durian contains many beneficial substances such as serotonin which can treat insomnia. Also an aphrodisiac, tifohormon, and titosterone as a stamina booster. It also contains anthocyanins which can prevent premature aging. (radar)
