GLAGAH – Seblang traditional performance schedule in the village of Olehsari, Glagah District, Banyuwangi, it wasn't clear until yesterday (3/8). After two days of delay due to non-technical factors, the committee has not confirmed when the staging will be carried out again. As stated by the seblang dance committee last Saturday (2/8), if there are no clues from the elders who are possessed, then the seblang dance ritual cannot be carried out.
Java Post Radar Banyuwangi monitoring yesterday, the location of the seblang dance in the village of present, Glagah District, looks deserted. None of the committee was at that location that afternoon. Even though it's quiet, Some residents are seen still visiting the location. They purposely came to make sure whether seblang was held or not. After seeing the deserted location, many visitors who look disappointed. Especially, some of these visitors were not aware of the delay beforehand.
Traditional leader of the Seblang Association, Anshori, 50, when confirmed by phone yesterday said, the seblang ritual was not held yesterday. The committee is still waiting for instructions from other elders. "Rather than we force it and it won't be like yesterday, better postpone first, We will inform you later if it will be held again,explained Ansari.
Just knowing, the seblang ritual in the village of present that was held this year did not go smoothly. Two days in a row the dancer did not experience possession. This caused the committee to conclude that the spirit had not wished. Because, So far, seblang dancers have been chosen based on dreams or possessions experienced by the elders or descendants of the seblang dancers.
Meanwhile, Husairi, 49, a resident of the village of Olehsari said, many disappointed guests. The man who also opened the meatball shop told, there are tourists from Lumajang who deliberately come and stay for two days to see the seblang dance. When asked about dancers who cannot be possessed, he explained that such cases had happened before. "In the past, when we tried it, the spirits still wouldn't enter, usually a new seblang dancer will be chosen,Husairi explained. (radar)
