BANYUWANGI – Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency Banyuwangi (BMKG Banyuwangi) issued an official statement related to the change of seasons in Banyuwangi Regency.

Reported from TIMES Indonesia, Banyuwangi BMKG forecaster, Yustoto Windiarto said based on monitoring results, Normally, almost all of the Banyuwangi area has entered the dry season.

“But because the sea surface temperature is still warm, The current dry season is a wet dry season, which means that rain still occurs during the dry season,” he told TIMES Indonesia, Monday (20/8/2020).

The warm sea surface temperature, light him, serves as a steam provider in the formation of rain clouds.

“Another contributing factor is the fluctuating equatorial rossby wave activity (depending on daily activities) which also affects the supply of water vapor, which is the main ingredient in the formation of rain clouds,” he said.

Yustoto added, Another dominant factor that causes it is the still warm sea surface temperature in Indonesian waters, especially in East Java which results in rain still occurring in the Banyuwangi area.

“The rain that occurs is local or uneven like during the rainy season and the intensity is light to moderate,” explained Yustoto.

From this analysis, BMKG Banyuwangi asked the public to be aware of the impact of the wet dry season, namely the increase in sea waves.

“Sea wave height ranges 2 until 4 meter. High sea waves (in Banyuwangi Regency) This happens because of the strong air pressure in the southern hemisphere,” said the Banyuwangi BMKG forecaster, Yustoto.
