Reject the Prohibition of Selling on Ships

KALIPURO – Not even five months in office, General Manager PT. ASDP Indonesia Ferry Ketapang, M. Yusuf Hadi, issue policies that harm the common people. The number one person in ASDP issued a policy that limited the number of hawkers on board.

Not just peddlers, Newspaper deliverers who usually sell around the counters and entrances to the ASDP Ketapang Port are also prohibited from selling. inevitably, This unilateral policy was immediately opposed by the hawkers.

Yesterday afternoon (3/2) hundreds of hawkers who are members of the Association of Peddlers (PPA) Ketapang lurk the office of PT. Indonesia Ferry (Persero) ASDP Ketapang. Their action was the result of new regulations from ASDP which limited the number of hawkers on board.

Since date 28 Last January, there were only two asongan traders who could sell on the ship. Of course this is very detrimental to the hawkers. Their income is reduced almost 90 percent because selling in the port area is not as many selling in the ship docked at ASDP Ketapang Port.

Related to the rules that are not in favor of the common people, the Ketapang hawkers urged the ASDP to revoke the regulation. Not only hawkers, information circulating that newspaper sellers or newspaper deliverers who usually sell around the entrance to the Ketapang ASDP Port are also prohibited from selling.

They are only allowed to sell in the port area. Of course it is very detrimental. Because, ASDP service users are more likely to buy newspapers at the entry counter than at the port. To submit the complaint, more or less 199 hawkers in uniform from o'clock 13.00 yesterday visited the Ketapang ASDP office.

They occupied a room in the Ketapang ASDP lobby. The purpose of their visit was to meet Ketapang ASDP officials and ask for the regulation to be repealed. Apart from speeches, they also read tahlil simultaneously. The police and TNI officers were seen standing guard around the lobby to anticipate if at any time the hawkers would become anarchic.

Until 15.00 not a single ASDP Ketapang official met the hundreds of hawkers. Meanwhile, ASDP Ketapang Port is still holding meetings with related parties, like the Navy, police, Gapasdap, and other related parties at the port, to discuss it.

While waiting for the results of the meeting which is still ongoing, hawkers are still allowed to sell as usual. PPA Ketapang Coordinator, Muhammad Sunoto, said that his party would still demand that ASDP Ketapang grant his request to cancel the regulations that had been issued.

"Since 2009 this rule does not exist. The information we get, after there was an MoU between the ASDP directors and the Indonesian Navy, AD, lake, this rule is applied, said Sunoto. He added, as much 199 The hawkers who are members of PPA Ketapang depend on their lives by selling on the ship. The new rules are not only detrimental, but it also kills the only source of income for the hawkers in Ketapang.

“Three days we tried to sell on board only two people, our income decreases 90 percent. The newspaper runners are also our members. After being banned from selling around the counter, their income also decreased,” he added.

If the request of the hawkers is not granted and the Ketapang ASDP continues to enforce the rules regarding limiting the number of hawkers on board, Sunoto promised to mobilize more members.

According to Sunoto, the hawkers will stage an even more excited action. “We will take even bigger actions if our request is not granted. ASDP should make rules that don't kill the businesses of ordinary people like us,Sunoto exclaimed passionately.

Meanwhile, Operational Manager of PT. Indonesia Ferry (Persero) ASDP Ketapang, Wahyudi Susianto, when confirmed, said that his party refused to limit the number of hawkers on board. His party only applies the rules so that traders are more orderly in selling on the ship, i.e. only two traders.

"We do not forbid. We ask them to be more organized, by selling on the boat only two people alternately,Wahyudi said. Asked about the things that underlie the issuance of the regulation, Wahyudi
said that the rule had actually been contained in the Shipping Act of the Year 2008 and government regulations regarding ports.

The two regulations stated that the port has divided zones for hawkers and passengers who will use port services. “We are not saying whether these hawkers are disturbing or not. In this case we are only enforcing existing rules,Wahyudi said.

Meanwhile, Until this news was written yesterday the results of the meeting are still not known whether the regulation will still be enforced or not. ASDP Ketapang is still holding a coordination meeting to determine whether the regulation will still be enforced or not.

“We will not give further statements until this meeting is over,” Wahyudi said while heading to the meeting room at the Ketapang ASDP office yesterday afternoon. (radar)
