SONGGON, Jawa Pos Radar Tile – The activity status of Mount Raung which is on the border of Banyuwangi Regency, Bondowoso, and Jember experienced a decline, Tuesday (2/5) afternoon. Previously, almost a year the volcano is staunchly at alert level II.
Head of Volcano Observation Post (GAPP) Roar, Mangaran village, Sumberarum Village, Songgon District, Mukijo explained, the demotion is based on the results of the evaluation of observations. “On Tuesday (2/5) o'clock 12.00, status downgraded to normal,He said, Wednesday (3/5).
According to Mukijo, Mount Raung's status has been upgraded to Alert II level since Friday (29/7/2022), that's because there is an increase in volcanic activity. “After almost a year, the observation results finally showed a decrease in activity," he said.
Although there is a decrease in volcanic activity, PPGA Raung is still detecting some seismic activity on a high mountain 3.322 meters above the sea level. "There is still activity, but tend to be lower than when the alert status," he explained.
The PPGA Raung head also appealed to the public not to move or come close to the radius 500 meters from the central crater. "It is also not allowed to go down the crater,” he added.
PPGA observer Raung Agung Tri Subekti said, during observations on Tuesday (2/5), the volcano is clearly visible until it is covered in fog 0-III. It is observed that the smoke from the main crater is white with light to medium intensity, with a height of approx 50 until 200 meters from the top. “The weather is clear to rain, weak southerly wind,” he said while referring to the ambient air temperature 20 until 28 degrees Celsius with the intensity of rainfall 20,7 millimeters per day.
Agung said, recorded seismic activity, among others 15 times the earthquake gusts with an amplitude of two to three millimeters, and long earthquake 20 until 58 second. Six times the distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of two to 13 millimeters, S-P 15-33 seconds and duration of the earthquake 45 until 81 second.
