Selling well because it was inspired by the Lalare Orchestra Concert

BECOME a craftsman of traditional Banyuwangi musical instruments, Sugiarto has been busy in his daily life for a long time. Angklung, drum, violin, and saron, is the traditional musical instrument he used to make. Lately he's not only busy making adult group musical equipment.

Currently with his colleague Prayit who is also a resident of RT02/RW02 Dusun Krajan, Kemiren Village, Glagah, he is busy with making mini saron which is starting to be sought after by children. He has sold dozens of mini saron units. The mini saron is indeed a toy for children who like traditional music.

Mini saron orders increased dramatically after the Lalare Orchestra concert some time ago. Sugiarto, who is also a saron instrument player, realized that the Lalare Orchestra had made a child- children become more in love with traditional music.

Before the orders for her mini saron increased to what it is today, many small children come to his house to try out the mini saron that he made. After trying, it turns out that they want to have. The next day, it is certain that the parents will come to Sugiarto's place of work.

They came to order a mini saron for him because his children were whining to buy him the mini saron made by Sugiarto. “Kids here (Gnawing) really like wasps, but after the Lalare Orchestra appeared, they asked for more mini sarons to be made,"said the father of one child.

The same thing was said by Supri, one of the parents who ordered saron to Sugiarto. At the Lalare Orchestra concert some time ago, his four year old son also saw the children's traditional music concert. The next day his four-year-old son whined and bought a saron so he could be popular like the Lalare Orchestra personnel..

"Whereas, still small my child, but she cries wanting to buy saron,” recalls Supri. Prayit said the same thing, one of Sugiarto's partner carpenters. Coincidentally his daughter named Fira, 10, is a member of the Lalare Orchestra. However, he doesn't have a traditional musical instrument like the one he played at the concert a while ago. After the concert is over, Fira asks her father to buy saron.

"Finally I made a mini saron as well,"Said Prayit. Sugiarto added, making a mini saron is not much different from making a large saron. It can be said that making a mini saron is easier and doesn't take long. Making one mini saron unit can be done in a day.

“The raw material is mahogany or flower wood,” he added. The price is very affordable. One unit of plain or unpainted mini saron is priced at Rp 350 thousand. However, when the mini saron is already carved and painted, more expensive, can reach Rp 600 thousand.

“This mini saron is exactly like the original saron, only small size. The sound is the same," he said. With so many children getting attracted to traditional musical instruments, it certainly has a very good impact on the arts of Banyuwangi in the future.

If from an early age you have loved traditional musical instruments, Of course, when they grow up, they will become the next generation of traditional musicians in Banyuwangi. “Nowadays there are many children who are good at playing angklung or saron. That's very good I think in the future. We no longer have to worry about traditional musicians going extinct,” he concluded. (radar)
