BANYUWANGI – The Banyuwangi Regency Government continues to be committed to improving access and health services in the district nicknamed The Sunrise of Java. In addition to the physical construction of hospitals and health centers,, Development in the health sector is also carried out by preparing human resources (HR) qualified.

The health sector is one of the priority programs of the Banyuwangi Regency Government. Therefore, The district government has promoted various breakthroughs, start ambulance on call, emergency room (DMU) handling poverty, to scholarship programs for doctors who continue their studies to specialist level.

The scholarship program for young doctors to complete specialist education has been carried out since 2014 ago. Until now, there are already four scholarship-winning doctors who have successfully held the status of specialist doctors and have served in Banyuwangi.

Besides that, The Banyuwangi Regency Government will continue the doctor scholarship program next year. No half-hearted, district government prepares quota 30 scholarship seats for aspiring specialist doctors. After graduating to become a specialist, they must serve in Banyuwangi to improve the quality of health services in Bumi Blambangan.

This was revealed when Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas visited specialist doctors who received scholarships at the Blambangan Hospital, yesterday (24/8). “I want to greet them directly and at the same time motivate them to serve the community well," he said.

Currently, there are four specialist doctors who have been awarded scholarships. They have graduated and served in Banyuwangi, a doctor who specializes in anatomical pathology, neurologist, content specialist, and cardiologist.

"Next year, a scholarship is budgeted for 30 candidate for specialist. They complement other specialist doctors who have served, so that it can meet all the needs of specialist doctors in Banyuwangi,Said Anas.

Through the scholarship program, The district government provides educational assistance for the last three semesters for doctors who are continuing their education to a specialist level. Anas added, The presence of specialist doctors is very important to realize the quality of excellent health services.

One of the indicators is better medical treatment. There is a disease that used to be referred to the RSUD Dr. Soetomo belonging to the East Java Provincial Government in Surabaya, now it can be handled in Banyuwangi, such as the case of brain tumor neurosurgery, brain haemorrhage due to accident, dan hydrocephalus.

“These specialist doctors also regularly visit a number of puskesmas, so that the people there can be served without having to go to the hospital which is located in the middle of the city,Anas added. The preparation of additional specialist doctors is also in the context of opening a stroke center which is planned to be carried out next year with additional specialist doctors.

There will be an additional two new neurologists for the purpose of opening the stroke center. One of the scholarship recipients, namely Dr. Dina Utami, Sp.PA says, scholarships from the Banyuwangi Regency Government are very helpful in completing their study assignments.

“I am happy to serve here,"said the anatomical pathologist who received a scholarship from the district government in 2016 2014. Dr. Indah Ari, Sp. S added, One of the problems of prospective specialist doctors is that there is no guaranteed job placement after graduating from education.

With this scholarship, he and his colleagues became excited because they had secured placement in the RSUD in Banyuwangi. “I previously practiced as a doctor in Surabaya, after hearing there is a scholarship for specialist education I was immediately interested. Now I have served at the Blambangan Hospital and all of my family have settled here. I hope that this kind of program will continue so that more specialist doctors will be present in Banyuwangi," he said. (radar)
