Banyuwangi Regency Government Encourages Non-Formal Workers Covered by Employment BPJS

BANYUWANGI – Employment insurance protection is important to have not only for formal workers but also for those who work in the informal sector. The Banyuwangi Regency Government continues to support efforts so that non-formal workers receive insurance protection through BPJS Employment.

“There are a lot of workers in the informal sector, They also have the same occupational risks as formal workers, perhaps even higher risk factors such as accidents and death. So they need protection to cover medical and other costs," said Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas when meeting with Deputy Director for Learning BPJS Employment Abdur Rahman Irsyadi at the Banyuwangi Regency Government Office, Wednesday (20/2/2019).

Anas said, The Banyuwangi Regency Government has continued to encourage non-formal workers to be covered by BPJS Employment insurance protection.. Both workers in the agricultural sector, tourist, trade and fishermen. Within the scope of the district government itself, non-ASN officers such as former daily workers (THL) Technical and THL Cleanliness has been covered by BPJS Health.

"To reach a broad target, socialization is very necessary to continue, because there are still many non-formal workers who do not know the benefits of this insurance. "The district government will continue to support this effort," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director for Learning Abdurrahman Irsyadi said, Currently, informal sector workers' participation in employment insurance is still limited. Even though this insurance has a very affordable contribution, namely IDR. 16.800 per month, with many benefits.

"The fees are cheap but workers can get guarantees if something untoward happens,He said.

The benefit received by workers is Work Accident Insurance (JKK), consisting of medical care and rehabilitation costs, replacement of wages while unable to work, partial or total permanent disability compensation, up to death benefits. There is also a Death Guarantee which covers funeral expenses and periodic and full compensation for heirs, as well as Old Age Guarantee (JHT) namely pension money after stopping work.

“By joining BPJS Employment, Then workers will feel more safe and comfortable at work because there is guarantee in the form of funds that might be needed if something unexpected happens. Old age is also guaranteed with funds that continue to be developed by BPJS Employment,explained Abdurrahman.

Abdurrahman hopes for support from the regional government, More and more non-formal sector workers will become more aware of the importance of insurance and participate in the BPJS Health program. Currently, the number of non-formal workers registered with BPJS Employment is around 5,000 people.

“We are very grateful for the support provided by Regent Anas and the ranks of the Banyuwangi Regency Government. We hope that the number of participants in this program will increase and more informal sector workers will be protected by insurance," he concluded.
